Mother’s Day

What can a mother ask for but a relaxing day and being served dinner for a change. Dinner it was, cooked by Jamie and some help from Joey. Beef with mushroom sauce, mashed potato and baked vegetables.

Dinner on our deck on a warm sunny day. Summer is finally here!

Azaleas

It was an outing to White Rock on this sunny Sunday to Pauline’s house. She is my friend whom I met from my pottery class and we have been going to lesson together for a good three years now.

We had planned earlier in the week to go to a pottery fair organized by the Samiahmoo Pottery Cub, where potters exhibit their crafts and the public come to view and buy them. It was the weekend before Mother’s Day and what a good time to promote their craft.

Pauline had invited a few friends to come along. It was the first time I had been to a fair like this where potters each have a table space to exhibit their crafts. I had been impressed by some of the works and it had also given me some inspiration. $32 poorer, I had bought myself a very expensive cup designed by a Korean lady. Happy Mother’s Day to me!

After our visit to the fair, it was lunch at the Ku’s residence. Property in White Rock is exclusive. Pauline’s garden was impressively beautiful and overwhelming. Somewhat like Butchart Gardens in Victoria Island, but in a smaller scale. Her husband is a vivid gardener and growing Azaleas is his speciality. There were azaleas everywhere and in different colors. His hobby to create them in Bonsai style had left me amazed and longed to give them a try in growing them with my own hands. Hence, I was given two pots as a gift.

Apart from watering them everyday in the warm temperatures, there was nothing to be done except to admire them from my family room. They are now blooming beautifully on my deck.

Grumpy Cody

Cody is my co-worker’s dog. It is his first visit to our house and I had volunteered to give him a hair cut as Jasmin had decided that sending him to the groomers was far too expensive. She would want to buy a shaver and do the hair cut herself in future.

He was rather nervous at first, but it didn’t take long before he settled down and started running all over the house playing catch with Pepper.

As soon as he made himself at home, I decided to put him on the grooming table and started shaving him down. It took me about an hour and got him looking all neat and tidy. He was quite obedient and it wasn’t much of a hassle.

Bath time was also a breeze. When all was done, he was quite contented and happy to be relaxing out in the back yard while I did some gardening. Yes, conveniently on the deck table!

My Lunch

Today’s lunch is made by Jamie. Cold meat sandwich. In order to take your own lunch to work or school, make sure the picture resembles you. Take only the one that belongs to you. Otherwise, you may not get the right filling as per ordered.

Lunch was at home today after my pottery class. Sandwich with lots of cucumber and my afternoon tea. Mmmmmm…..

Succulent Ball

Last year's wreath bought by Shell Busey

My latest craze ….. Succulents! Chris had ordered flats of Sedums as per my request. This year, I have decided to incorporate these fleshy plants to my hanging baskets.

Last year, I had planted a wreath for the first time, but to my dismay, did not sell and had been hanging at the nursery for a long time. I had planned to give it a trim and replace all the dead plants this season. However, just a couple of weeks back, apparently some radio and television celebrity, Shell Busey, who is an expert on home improvement talk show, had taken a liking for it and had bought it. Thus is now in a famous person’s home. Wow!!!!

Apart from the wreath, I am also experimenting on a succulent ball. Chris has not been able to find a supplier for the circular frame so I had come up with the idea of using chicken coop wires. Although a bit flimsy, I was able to moss it up and filled it with soil. The hard part was to insert the plants in in a circular manner. However, it turned out quite appropriate. Not quite finished yet but looking good.

Carol scrutinizing customer order

There is never a dull moment working at the nursery. Carol is up to her tricks again.

Pam had suggested that we had a better way to place our customer order cards in front of us as we work so that we will not lose it while planting up baskets. She had come up with the idea of attaching it by using the handles of the basket hangers and shoving the other end to a pot of garden soil. Thus using it like a stand for the card which made reading easier.

However, Carol had a better idea. Attach the wire to the head instead. Seen here goofing around with the attachment, we had a good laugh which made our sides ached for the day.

New Kids in Town

The two older kids waited outside with mama, while their aunt was having her babies

Two new kids were born today at Port Kells Nurseries. As soon as the female babies appeared, in no time we could see them frolicking around the barn and wagging their little tails. The new comers have yet to be named.
